Hello, it’s a great day to start a project.
“A space of shadow and depth, where design holds its breath.
Fluted wood walls draw the eye along their lines,
while mirrors echo reflections into infinity.
Light is low, diffuse, deliberate. More glow than illumination.
This is L’Antichambre : somber, immersive, built to be remembered.”

Stepping away from The Victorian bathroom, this powder room has the depth and stillness of a moonless night. L’Antichambre was conceived as a powder room in function only. In atmosphere, it operates closer to a sanctuary—hushed, deliberate, and unapologetically dark. The concept is masculine in the truest sense of the word: not loud, but weighted. A space that holds its own through restraint, depth, and a precise layering of material and shadow.
The darkness is not incidental. It is the first design decision, and everything else follows from it. White oak cabinetry and wall panelling, finished in a deep PE stain, absorb light rather than reflect it. A complementary dark paint color dissolves the boundary between surface and structure, creating a continuity that makes the room feel less assembled than carved.
The walls are articulated through reeded panelling whose rhythm becomes the visual heartbeat of the space. Carefully positioned, a wall-mounted fixture by Luminaire Authentik cast light across the vertical grooves, catching their relief and revealing a quiet interplay of shadow and volume. This effect is amplified by the mirrors, which face one another and extend the perception of light, allowing it to reverberate throughout the room while reinforcing its hushed quality.
Within this composition, the vanity recedes. Suspended off the floor and set slightly apart, it reads as a secondary gesture; a quiet anchor rather than a focal point. Its surface, however, introduces a subtle shift in texture and tone. The Vancouver quartzite from Cosentino Sensa, with its leathered finish and faint green undertones, brings depth and warmth to the space. The same stone continues underfoot at the threshold, marking a clear transition from the corridor into the room.
L’Antichambre is a study in atmosphere and in the particular mood a room can hold when every decision is made to feel both restrained and immersive. The use of light to cast shadows, of material to introduce warmth, and of reflection to create depth all contribute to an enveloping experience.
