The Saint-Sauveur Kitchen

Contemporary Kitchen

In this kitchen designed for an active family, the space seems to gently slow the pace of hectic mornings. Much like the evergreens standing tall as the wind moves through the forest.

The materials used play a major role in creating this atmosphere. The dark oak lends a warm, reassuring presence. The light porcelain, with its soft, mineral-like character, recalls stones shaped by time and the changing seasons. The colours feel as though they belong to the same landscape as the forest outside.

The monochromatic palette is also soothing to the eye. Everything feels more fluid, more slow-paced, as if the kitchen gently absorbs some of the day’s hectic rhythm. Even the light softens as it glides over the matte surfaces. The space carries the same calm that settles in after a long hike in nature.

An island designed as an architectural volume

This kitchen exudes a sense of both solidity and softness. At the heart of the room, the long, solid island stretches out like a horizon line, giving the space a stable and reassuring presence.

The seating extends naturally from the countertop, giving the island a long, continuous presence in the room. It evokes the spirit of certain European kitchens, where spaces feel expansive, minimalist, and built to last.

Just beyond, large windows open the home onto the forest. The trees sway with the wind, the light shifts throughout the day, and the landscape quietly animates the wood and stone surfaces of the kitchen.

A barista corner integrated into a stone alcove

The barista corner is nestled within a spacious stone alcove where morning rituals gently encourage a slower pace. Stoneware bowls, glasses, ceramic pieces, and the coffee machine all contribute to a slower, more lived-in atmosphere where everyday tasks are taken at a leisurely pace.

The porcelain, which extends across the alcove walls, creates an enveloping, mineral-like inspired presence. Its matte, slightly textured finish absorbs the light, creating a subdued and visually quiet ambiance. The surface recalls stone or natural plaster, giving the space a sense of freshness, stability, and permanence.

In contrast, the warm tone of the oak cabinets brings softness and warmth to the space.

A back kitchen to keep the essentials front and center

In this kitchen, everyday activities naturally shift into the back kitchen, leaving the main space quieter and more open.

Small appliances, food storage, and prep areas are tucked away behind a second, more functional space. The kitchen is thus able to keep natural materials and light at the forefront.

Even though it opens onto the living area, the room retains that sense of quiet order that runs throughout the entire home. The eye moves effortlessly between the wood, stone, and the openings to the outdoors. Functionality remains ever-present, but it never overtakes the space.
